Richmond Back to School Carnival Returning for 3 Days

Richmond, California (August 8, 2018) – For the past three years, the Richmond Back to School Carnival has brought families in the community together, giving kids an enjoyable start to the new school year. Richmond Police Activities League (RPAL), City of Richmond Community Services Department, and Richmond Police Department are bringing back the carnival, Friday-Sunday, August 24-26, 2018 for more back to school fun.

Everyone is welcome to attend this free admission event, which takes place at Civic Center Plaza and Macdonald Ave in Richmond. The carnival will be open on Friday, August 24th from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday, August 25th from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday, August 26th, from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The festivities will occupy Nevin Avenue, between 25th and 27th Streets, and Civic Center, between Macdonald and Nevin resulting in street closures from Tuesday-Monday, August 21-27, 2018. The City parking lot at Nevin and 27th Street will also be closed to accommodate the carnival rides.

The event will offer amusement rides, carnival games, fair food, family entertainment, resource booths, and more. Pre-sale ride tickets or wristbands are available for purchase in person for $20 at the following locations in Richmond: Richmond Recreation Complex (3230 Macdonald Ave), Girls Inc. (260 Broadway), Leftside Printing (979 -23rd Street) and Richmond Police Activities League (2200 Macdonald Ave). After the carnival opens at 5 p.m. on August 24th, ticket and wristbands prices will increase to $30. Wristbands are valid for one day of unlimited rides at the carnival.

Additionally, free school supplies will be given away on Saturday and Sunday, between 12:00 noon and 3:00 pm, while supplies last. Guests are encouraged to arrive early as supplies are limited.

The backpack giveaway provides the basic school supplies and materials children need to focus on learning. “Our mission is to support Richmond youth and their return to school. We support academic excellence for all children and encourage youth to achieve all they can achieve from a good education”, according to Larry Lewis, Executive Director of Richmond PAL.
