Event Details
rtist and clinical psychologist Sharon Strong, Ph.D. and curator Jacob Clark present an exhibition of masks at the Bridge Storage and ARTSpace main gallery from October 6th through the end of November.
Sharon Strong creates extraordinary masks from “life masks” combined with found objects and sculptural elements. Her art-making is a dynamic process—the scientific method at its most intuitive. Ms. Strong remarked, “In early human communities, masks literally embodied spirits in nature and the power of deities and demons brought to life through ritual and story”, she continued, “I know this power. My masks tell my stories and the stories of my time. They reveal our gods and monsters.”
Join us to celebrate “Beneath the Mask” on Saturday, October 6th, from 5pm to 8pm, at Bridge Storage and ArtSpace at 23 Maine Avenue in Richmond. Ms. Strong will give a demonstration and talk on the ritual and art of mask making as art form, method of community engagement, and spiritual practice. Her recent book “Soul Unmasked” will be available for purchase.
Additionally, during the first weekend of November, Ms. Strong is offering a hands-on 2-day workshop taking participants on a journey of soul discovery and mask-making.
